Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! The gratuitous Kacie update is in the mail...

Well, there I was, spurrin' wild....

That's what my friend Drew says when he begins a good story. :-)

I spent my birthday and Thanksgiving across the country in Virginia and Pennsylvania respectively. For my birthday, Ron made a really nice dinner that we shared with the neighbors while they compared housing features. New homeowners are a riot. :-) Thanksgiving was spent in and about the Altoona, Pennsylvania area where I got to spend some quality time at Ron's parent's house, cooking and lounging about in my pajamas while the boys were out chasing bird dogs and "hunting" for the good of others out on the trail (they gave up their catch to a hapless father/son combo).

When I got back, I took on a housesitting dog job if that makes any sense. I have become the new babysitter for Polo the Bouvier who my fellow grad student Paul affectionately calls her buffalo. She's huge, but really sweet. I've babysat twice now and when I leave, I feel all sad and bummed! It's like missing BlueDog....but at least I can see Polo again.

I've been doing well riding horses out at Drew and Jodi's place once or twice a week. We've been going to gymkana's at the Horse Lover's Arena to play games with them :-) like barrel patterns and keypoles. It's a lot of fun, I am busy breaking the World's Slowest Records, set by Kacie in the first place. :-) www.scottsdalesaddleclub.com has photos, some of which I've sent to a few of you for giggles.

Speaking of barrels, I've been staring down the barrel of the end of the semester, and suddenly, it's here! All deliverables are done and now it's just a matter of finding out the final verdict--grade report. But, I learned to not worry about those after about my second semester during my first college career...

I have two more semesters after this one, so there's some meeting of the minds that have to go on during the semester break: committee memberships, chair appointments, project proposals(of course, the cajones to do the work!), and so on. I think we're all in agreement that they can get me graduated this time next year (December '04) as I've shaved off a semester because I feel like I've spent plenty time and money as it is.

Good news: I was offered to teach the graphic design drawing class again this semester, so that will be another good experience, and one that I will feel more comfortable with. It will also help with the rent on the new apartment that I signed a lease on last week....

I will be moving after Christmas sometime into a cute two bedroom, one bath in Cave Creek that is at the base of the mountain that is west of Black Mountain. There are only three units (this is the end unit), it's been occupied by one lady since the day it was built 28 years ago, you can't see it from the road, it has covered parking and a little storage unit there, the property (and apt.) is in great condition, the views are great. When you look out the bedroom window, you look straight up the mountain and all you see are saguaros. If you look out of the other bedroom window, its view is of Black Mountain and nothing else! The kitchen is nice and open, room enough for a dining set, and a big patio door that leads to the (duh) patio, which is also very private. It has no laundry, costs $100 more than where I live now and I have to pay the electric, but that's just the way it's going to be. I had a real nice situation at Mikey's house, but as the old adage goes, all good things must come to an end.

I don't know why that is. I feel more like "all good things beget other good things" and that just means that life changes and if you're willing to accept that, then all good things are just that: good things. Go with it.

I wish all the good things to you, as I have been blessed with them in my life and especially lately--with travel, companionship, work, horses, dogs, friends, and family. That's really not even all of it that I am blessed with, and I hope I am appropriately thankful to those who make my life really great.

Thanks for making Planet Kacie a great place to live, work, and play.
